Is it all work and no play?

While life as a graduate student can be demanding, there is also relaxation outside of the classroom and opportunities to develop lasting associations with students and faculty.  People in the Department are very friendly and have frequent get-togethers.  Students meet for picnics, concerts, lectures, shows, sports or just to unwind on weekends.

  • Students meet once a week to attend the Departmental Seminars. After the seminar is over, they bring in food to eat together. During lunch, they participate in lively information discussions on technical and non-technical topics.

  • Graduate students have formed a Graduate School Council. They meet once a month. After the meeting, they eat together followed by a fun activity such as watching a video, playing indoor and outdoor games. They occasionally organize day trips to some of the fun places in Ohio.

  • Major holidays are celebrated together

  • Potluck dinners are organized in the Department throughout the year. Graduate students participate in these informal gatherings. A variety of ethnic food is displayed at these potlucks.

On campus there are modern museums, theaters, concert halls, arenas, stadiums and recreational facilities. Take a tour of the Columbus campus.

In addition, the Columbus metropolitan area has world-class musical and theatrical facilities and professional soccer, baseball and hockey teams.
