PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Ohio State University, Columbus, OH August 2000-Present

Assistant Professor of Ecological Engineering, Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering

Member of interdisciplinary group developing Ecological Engineering program at Ohio State University.

Investigating and optimizing the use of wetland treatment systems to meet societal and ecological needs.

Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA January 1996-July 2000

Research Associate, Coastal Ecology Institute

Leader of interdisciplinary group developing simulation landscape models to predict water quality and habitat changes in the Mississippi Delta. These models integrate hydrodynamic and ecological routines to simulate long-term changes across coastal landscapes.

Investigating the use of natural systems (river diversions and wetland treatment systems) to meet societal and ecological needs and applying energy analysis to quantify the natural energies driving these systems.

University of Florida, Gainesville, FL January 1994-December 1995

Graduate Research Assistant, Department of Soil and Water Science

Developed a spatially distributed model of the nitrogen cycle applicable to wetland treatment systems. Discovered methods to increase nitrogen removal from wetland systems after identifying limitations of this process.

Collected, managed, and interpreted data from a continually monitored wetland treatment system in conjunction with an engineering consulting firm.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Instructor

Spatial Statistics, Louisiana State University, Spring 1998

-Established a special interest course to meet desires of students and faculty across campus

-Led majority of lectures, cooperated with faculty from Statistics Department

Teaching Assistant

Tropical Ecology International Diploma Course, Merida, Mexico, Summer 1998

-Worked with small groups of students to clarify concepts taught in class

-Planned and supervised sampling trips and experiments to gather data

-Helped students incorporate field data into simulation models
