Welcome to FABE
Ever wonder who designs the technology that keeps our food supply safe, our farms efficient and our planet healthy? At Ohio State’s Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE), you’ll learn to engineer the systems that sustain life.
FABE is uniquely part of both the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) and the College of Engineering (COE), offering our students double the resources for internship connections, career services, and scholarships. As a student in our department, you will have all of the benefits of a large research university, but you will belong to a department that feels like a small community.
Choose from three undergraduate majors:
- Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) – an ABET-accredited engineering program that combines biology, technology, and design to improve natural and built systems.
- Construction Systems Management (CSM) – a hands-on major focused on managing people, projects and technologies that keep our built environments safe and sustainable.
- Agricultural Systems Management (ASM) – a hands-on major focused on managing farms, working for equipment dealers, grain handling and seed production companies, and local farming co-ops.
Outside the classroom, students apply their skills through internships, co-ops, design competitions and more than a dozen active clubs and organizations — from the Construction Systems Management Club to E-Week, Buckeye Precious Plastic and Engineers Without Borders. These experiences build leadership, teamwork and creativity employers notice.
95% or higher job attainment within 6 months of graduation for all three undergraduate majors.
Our programs incorporate hands-on lab sections with traditional style lectures, enabling students to learn how theory is practically applied to real-life scenarios. Classes are small and labs are even smaller, allowing for individualized learning and attention.
Graduates from all of our undergraduate majors have a average starting salary range from $49,000 - $66,000.
Over $100,000 in scholarships from our department to incoming and current students, not including additional scholarship opportunities offered through CFAES and COE.
