    Earlier this semester, four FABE students were recognized with the CFAES Distinguished Senior Award. In addition, five FABE students were recognized at the department level with a FABE Distinguished Senior Award. The Distinguished Senior Award honors academic, disciplinary, and professional excellence in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES). It is the most prestigious undergraduate award in CFAES, recognizing our top graduating seniors each year from each of the academic units on the Columbus campus.

  2. Dr. Lingying Zhao, professor

    Zhao Named Associate Chair of Research

    Dr. Lingying Zhao, professor, has been named the Associate Chair for Research in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) at The Ohio State University. The position oversees research productivity of the academic unit and operations of the FABE Wooster location and activities. Zhao will also be involved in the coordination of large interdisciplinary proposals and industry engagement to enhance the FABE research mission.

    Congratulations to Dr. VM 'Bala' Balasubramaniam on being selected to receive the 2021 Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Research and Development Award. Recognition of this award will take place virtually this summer during the IFT Annual Meeting.

    For Shay Pond, a fourth-year majoring in agricultural systems management (ASM) with minors in agribusiness and nonprofit management, creating a positive generational change is a dream of his. Pond is interested in exploring ways to address food and financial security issues for lower income families in hopes to start a nonprofit organization.

It’s a dream that became more vivid with the unique opportunity to shadow the Dean of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences in the autumn of 2019. Ashlee’s path to attending The Ohio State University started quite young; in fact, it began at birth.

    As the number of COVID-19 cases began to increase in March, the United States faced a shortage in numerous kinds of personal protective equipment (PPE), including face shields, gloves and hand sanitizer. Like many, Christopher Tkach saw the need for supplies as a call to action. Tkach, an undergraduate student in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE), focused his efforts on finding a way to help supply PPE to communities affected by the pandemic.

    Agriculture production is challenged with the need to increase yields while maintaining farm profitability.  Technology and farm data are becoming more integral in producing food.  Dr. John Fulton’s research and extension focuses on machinery automation and use of spatial data to improve the farm business and in-season decisions with specialization on developing and evaluating technology or automated components related to application equipment to more accurately place and meet site-specific crop and soil needs. Dr. John Fulton was recently promoted to full professor in June of 2020.
