FABE Graduate Student Organization (GSO)
Mission Statement
To provide an organized outlet for communication between graduate students and departmental faculty and staff. To bring together students from diverse backgrounds and research areas in an informal atmosphere. To provide camaraderie among the graduate students community housed in (or advised by a faculty member in) the Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering department. To organize group outings for our members that improve their graduate school experience.
OFFICERS
President: Ariana Spina
My name is Ariana Spina. I am a Masters student under Dr. John Fulton. My research focuses on the role that artificial intelligence (AI) could take on within the livestock industry. My hobbies include reading, swimming, and keeping my two Australian Shepherds entertained.
Vice President: Sandeep Dhakal
My name is Sandeep Dhakal. I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering under the mentorship of Dr. Ajay Shah. My research focuses on the application of remote sensing and machine learning techniques in agriculture. I like listening to music and playing cricket in my spare time.
Treasurer: Lindsey Shimoda
My name is Lindsey Shimoda. I am pursuing a master’s degree in Biological Engineering advised by Dr. Peter Ling. My research focuses on detecting biofilm in controlled agriculture environments. I enjoy crafting, paddleboarding and playing with my cat.
Faculty Meeting Representative: Cassidy Brozovich
My name is Cassidy Brozovich and I am dually enrolled in Mechanical Engineering and Agricultural Engineering under Dr. Peter Ling. My research is focused on the fluid dynamics of plant water management in space. I enjoy working out, cooking/baking, and gardening in my free time.
Social Chair: Alex Thomas
My name is Alex Thomas, and I am a Masters student working with Dr. John Fulton. I am from central Alabama and have my undergraduate degree from Auburn University. My research focuses on using drones for the spreading of cover crops. I enjoy hanging out with friends and cooking in my free time.
Council of Graduate Students Delegate: Hetian Hu
My name is Hetian Hu. I am a 4th year PhD candidate working with Dr. V.M. "Bala" Balasubramaniam. My major research area is food safety engineering and novel food processing (high-pressure based food processing) technologies. I am the delegate representing FABE at the Council of Graduate Students (CGS, the official student government for the 10,000+ graduate students at The Ohio State University). The major role of me as a CGS delegate is to represent the graduate students within FABE department within CGS and to advocate for them in many ways (more information about the role of CGS can be found here: https://cgs.osu.edu/about-us).
