    Ohio State Students win Gold Medal at 2021 iGem Competition

    For the second year in a row, a team of Ohio State students received a gold medal at the annual iGem Giant Jamboree. Three students majoring in food, agricultural and biological engineering (FABE), Lindsey Shimoda, Satvik Kethireddy and Yingyi Zhu, represented FABE on Lipid-A-Phighter, their submission for the 2021 competition.

    Though California native Kaylee Presnell has snorkeled with sharks, she has her eyes on goals millions of miles above the sea. Kaylee is a fifth-year food, agricultural and biological engineering major at The Ohio State University.

    The Ohio State University Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) rose in the latest rankings from U.S. News and World Report 2022 Best Colleges Issue. FABE ranked sixth in the nation in agricultural and biological engineering, up from seventh last year, and is the highest ranked of Ohio State’s 10 departments or specialties that received enough votes for inclusion.

  5. Darren Drewry, Assistant Professor, FABE

    Drewry represents Ohio State in COALESCE; Research team receives $7 million NSF grant

    Darren Drewry, assistant professor in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, represents Ohio State on the team of multi-institutional researchers recently awarded a grant to pursue their vision for ultra-precision agriculture. The research group calls their team COALESCE, COntext Aware LEarning for Sustainable CybEr-agricultural systems. They were recently selected for a five-year $7 million Cyber-Physical Systems Frontier award funded by the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture.

    Each year, the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences presents several awards to acknowledge notable research and collaborations, including categories for junior and senior faculty, new innovators, team research, and one award for the best published peer-reviewed article by a current or recently graduated Ph. D. student. This year, faculty, students, postdoctoral scholars, and research scientists from the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering were well represented among the award recipients.

    Earlier this semester, four FABE students were recognized with the CFAES Distinguished Senior Award. In addition, five FABE students were recognized at the department level with a FABE Distinguished Senior Award. The Distinguished Senior Award honors academic, disciplinary, and professional excellence in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES). It is the most prestigious undergraduate award in CFAES, recognizing our top graduating seniors each year from each of the academic units on the Columbus campus.

  10. Dr. Lingying Zhao, professor

    Zhao Named Associate Chair of Research

    Dr. Lingying Zhao, professor, has been named the Associate Chair for Research in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) at The Ohio State University. The position oversees research productivity of the academic unit and operations of the FABE Wooster location and activities. Zhao will also be involved in the coordination of large interdisciplinary proposals and industry engagement to enhance the FABE research mission.
