    2025 FABE Student Scholarship and Awards Banquet

    On Wednesday, April 16th, 2025, the Ohio State Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) held its annual Student Scholarship and Awards Banquet. The banquet, held at the Nationwide 4-H Center on campus, honors faculty, staff, students and alumni for contributing to the department's advancement in 2024-2025.

    Faculty and staff recognized at CFAES Awards Ceremony

    Earlier this month, the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) at Ohio State University held its annual awards ceremony at the 4-H Center, honoring college staff, research, extension, teaching and advising. 

    The Department of Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering (FABE) faculty and staff received two awards on the day, including the Distinguished Teaching by a Lecturer Award and the Distinguished Multidisciplinary Team Extension Award.

    Graduate program ranks in top 10 for seventh year running

    The Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) within both the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) and College of Engineering at The Ohio State University has been ranked ninth in the nation among graduate programs by U.S. News & World Report in its 2025-2026 Best Biological /Agricultural Engineering Graduate Programs rankings, released this week.

    Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) faculty Patrick Sours received the 2024 Community Engaged Scholar award, announced by the Office of Outreach and Engagement at Ohio State University. 

  6. Bernstein receives Sustainability Institute Award at Denman Forum

    Fourth year agricultural engineering major Hannah Bernstein represented the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the Ohio State University's Denman Undergraduate Research Forum last week at the Ohio Union. 

    Bernstein was selected as a Sustainability Institute award recipient in the competitive poster competition for her project, titled, "Analyzing how the agricultural microbiome impacts soil carbon stability under different management practices."

    Keeping Ohio’s experts in their fields

    A love of farming shines in Len Vonderhaar’s eyes as he gazes at the vast fields of corn and soybeans that he has owned in Preble County, Ohio, since 1961.

    “It is such a reward to be out there,” he says.

    Vonderhaar still works his family’s farm at age 86 despite three back surgeries and chronic pain in leg joints. He drives a combine harvester across 2,700 acres, for as much as 14 hours a day, to complement the agricultural duties done by his son and two grandchildren.

    Ohio State University Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) graduate student Sandeep Dhakal was awarded second place in the 2025 Hayes Forum poster competition's food, agricultural and environmental sciences session last week for his research project, titled, “Detection of High Plains Wheat Mosaic Virus (HPWMoV) in sweet corn using multispectral imagery and deep learning.”
