Two teams of undergraduate Construction Systems Management (CSM) students represented The Ohio State University's Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) last week at the New Builders Construction Competition held at the University of Cincinnati last week.

After months of preparation and planning, the Commercial Construction Team placed first in the proposal competition, while the Residential Team took third in their respective categories.

The New Builders competition is for 1st to 3rd year students to get the opportunity to get an introduction into construction competitions and processes within the industry. It entailed a written proposal and corresponding presentation that was presented in front of industry professionals from the various tracks.

The winning Commercial Team consisted of Maggie Daiber, Ernest Smoot, Aiden Kenley, Michael Wojciak and Michael Stein. The upperclass advisor was Izzy Reed, and the team was also advised by Mark Banta, Quentin Pruneau and Wes Brown.

On the residential side, Max Trem, Nathan Lightcap, Ajay Kumar, Brandon Oaks and Tyler Zembo made up the third-place team, while Ellie Wiemken was their upperclass advisor. Both teams were advised by construction lecturer Jeff Suchy.

These wins mark the department's first since 2019.
