FABE Alumni Engineers Week Spotlight: Hannah Adams

Feb. 27, 2026
Hannah Adams

Hannah Adams is a Chemical Engineer at Battelle in Columbus, OH. She graduated from Ohio State University in 2023 with a degree in Biological Engineering. Get to know Hannah's role and how Ohio State prepared her for her career!

What does a typical day look like at your current role?
"I start my day by getting organized, when you're juggling multiple projects at once, organization is a must! Depending on the project, I might be out in the field, running experiments in the lab, building or testing something in the shop, or analyzing data at my desk. No two weeks look the same, and that variety is one of the most exciting parts of working at Battelle. I get to move between hands-on problem-solving and big-picture engineering thinking, which keeps the work both challenging and energizing."

What was your biggest educational takeaway from your time in FABE?
"FABE is a broad major and you get exposure to nearly every engineering discipline, which helps you develop a truly holistic approach to solving problems. Even though I specialized in biological engineering, I regularly use chemical, mechanical, systems, and even electrical engineering concepts within a single project. That broad skill set FABE builds has been one of my biggest assets in the real world. It taught me how to learn fast, make connections across disciplines, and adapt to whatever challenge comes next."

Best part of being an engineer or thing you love most about engineering?
"Impact. The thing I love most is knowing that the work I do can make a real difference for people. Being hands-on, solving complex problems, and seeing those solutions affect the real world is incredibly rewarding."

Fondest memory of your time at OSU FABE?
"The silly, slap‑happy moments with my cohort with late‑night study sessions in the library, pizza parties, and those unforgettable “ah‑ha!” breakthroughs when we finally understood something together. Those nights were stressful, hilarious, and honestly some of my favorite memories. But most importantly, the friendships stuck. We still meet up for monthly dinners, and those relationships are one of the best things I took away from my time at OSU."
