Meet Kyle Northup: 2024 CFAES Distinguished Senior

March 25, 2024

We sat down with Kyle Northup, one of the four College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) Distinguished Senior Award recipients from the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) here at The Ohio State University. Kyle is an agricultural systems management major from Crown City, Ohio, and he told us about how he found FABE, his experience in the department, and his plans for after graduation!

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE FABE?

I chose my major because I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do; however, I knew that I wanted to be in the agriculture industry. Agricultural Systems Management has a plethora of course that covers a broad spectrum of topics.

WHAT HAS YOUR UNDERGRADUATE EXPERIENCE BEEN LIKE?

My experience in this department has been wonderful. I have been able to meet many different classmates as well as faculty who share the same interests as me. The ASM major is a small, close-knit community that makes you feel at home.

HOW ARE YOU INVOLVED ON CAMPUS?

I am involved in the Agricultural Systems Management Club.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES/INTERESTS OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM?

Outside of the classroom, I am interested in different agricultural industries like raising beef cattle, and agronomy. Other interests outside of agriculture include spending time with family, being an avid outdoorsman and a steward of the land, and fishing.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR UNDERGRADUATES IN FABE?

The advice that I would give to undergraduates is even though college can be stressful sometimes, take time to have fun and enjoy your experience because 4 years of college goes by faster than you think.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR AFTER GRADUATION?

After graduating, I plan to find a job somewhere in southeast Ohio, and eventually after acquiring the funds, I would like to start an excavating business.

Congratulations to 2024 CFAES Distinguished Senior Kyle Northup! We wish you luck as you take the next steps in your career.
