The Ohio State University’s Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) was tied for 12th in U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 Best Biological / Agricultural Engineering Programs, which was released this week.

"It's an exciting time to be in FABE and the College of Engineering," said department chair Scott Shearer. "We will continue to give our students the best opportunity to succeed in the classroom and beyond."

The College of Engineering jumped five spots to 20th overall in U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 Best Colleges. It is the program’s highest ranking ever. Ohio State Engineering is once again ranked as the best in Ohio and has improved to 12th among public universities nationwide.

College of Engineering Dean Ayanna Howard believes the improvement momentum will continue due to even more student-focused efforts.

“Our number one job is to educate and prepare our students for the future,” Howard explained. “And in doing so, we are producing exceptional talent that will fuel economic development in Ohio and throughout our country for years to come.”

U.S. News’ rankings of undergrad engineering programs are based solely on the judgments of deans and senior faculty at peer institutions. The publication surveyed deans and faculty members of undergraduate engineering programs accredited by ABET, the engineering accrediting body.

Other Ohio State engineering undergraduate disciplines ranking among the nation’s best include materials (15), electrical (16), industrial/manufacturing (17), mechanical (17), aerospace (18), computer (19), civil (20), chemical (21), environmental (22) and biomedical (30).

U.S. News and World Report began evaluating undergraduate computer science programs in a separate category in 2020. In this year’s issue, Ohio State ranked 40th among 584 programs nationally, and 25th in the artificial intelligence specialty category.

In June, FABE's graduate program ranked eighth, while The Ohio State University College of Engineering’s graduate program ranked first in Ohio and 13th among all public universities in U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 Best Grad Schools issue.
