FABE Student Scholarship and Awards Banquet 2019

    Apr 12, 2019

April at Ohio State is often marked with the flurry of preparation for final exams and a sense of celebratory reflection as we look back at another academic year gone by, and the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) is no exception. On April 10th, 2019, FABE held its annual Student Scholarship and Awards Banquet. The day was spent at a showcase for the FABE and Agricultural Systems Management (ASM) capstone projects, while the evening was reserved for scholarship and award recipients.

  2. Lyne’a Diller is a 3rd year Agricultural Systems Management Major

Meet Lyne’a Diller: Time and Agricultural Systems Management

    Mar 31, 2019

It is easy to get intimidated by the course load when you first step into an Ohio State class. After a while though, students eventually get accustomed to the operation. Lyne’a Diller, a third year Agriculture Systems Management (ASM) major, can say she has gotten the handle on time management.

  3. Meet Owen Si: Former ASM student, current graduate student

For most, life can take them slightly off course from their intended paths. But for some, like Agricultural Systems Management (ASM) student Owen Si, that may mean moving to the other side of the world for college.

Owen was born and raised in Qingdao, a big city in the Chinese province of Shandong. Back in high school, he never imagined that he would be in America starting his graduate in agriculture. In fact, English was his least favorite subject.

The Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) rose to 9th in the nation in agricultural and biological engineering graduate programs according to U.S. News and World Report. FABE rose from 11th place in rankings from the previous year. The undergraduate program was recently ranked 7th in the nation, also rising from 11th last year.

Four FABE Students named 2019 CFAES Distinguished Seniors

    Mar 17, 2019

The CFAES Distinguished Senior Award honors academic, disciplinary and professional excellence in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES). It is the most prestigious undergraduate award in CFAES, recognizing our top graduating seniors each year from each of the academic units on the Columbus campus. The selected students’ accomplishments and activities have benefited their communities, their academic unit, the college, the university, and/or their future profession.

  6. Holly graduated in May 2018 with her B.S. degree in FABE, specializing in food engineering

Meet Holly Huellemeier: Food Connoisseur & Engineer

    Feb 21, 2019

Everyone likes their food a different way. Some people enjoy the comfort of simple, homemade foods that they know the exact taste of while others seek the thrill of creating and trying new and exotic foods. Holly Huellemeier, current FABE graduate student, falls into the second category.

From Georgetown, Kentucky, Holly has always loved cooking. When she’s in the kitchen, she’s constantly exploring her options and finding out new recipes and ingredients from outside the box.

  7. Congratulations to Matthew Klopfenstein and Jenna Lee

Two FABE Students named New Faces of ASABE Honorees

    Feb 14, 2019

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has announced the 2019 New Faces of ASABE Honorees, which include two Ohio State seniors: Jenna Lee and Matthew Klopfenstein. New Faces of ASABE are announced annually just ahead of National Engineers Week. Through the stories of these individuals, New Faces of ASABE aims to inspire their peers, the public, and future engineers who may follow in their footsteps

  8. Meet Grant McHugh, current CSM student

Meet Grant McHugh: Volunteering to Build a Better World

    Feb 10, 2019

Students who attend The Ohio State University are often exposed to eye-opening, mind-opening, and heart-opening experiences. Grant McHugh, a third-year Construction Systems Management (CSM) major, is a prime example.

  9. When not working on his research in the lab, Dylan is a big fan of the outdoors.

Meet Dylan Beam: Biological Engineering Major and Undergraduate Researcher

    Jan 28, 2019

Growing up in Newberg, Oregon, Dylan wouldn’t be surprised if the saying, “there are more trees than people in the state” rang true.

Fortunately for Dylan, he has always had an innate love for the outdoors. To this day, every time he visits home, he goes on some type of adventure in the open air, whether it be camping, hiking, or just going out to the coast.

FABE Researcher Creates Innovative Medical Gloves

    Jan 21, 2019

WOOSTER, Ohio—An Ohio State University researcher and her team have created the first medical glove that can block radiation while meeting federal guidelines and not triggering allergic reactions.

This glove also will eliminate the need for medical professionals working with radiation to double-glove to follow the federal requirement that they protect against both bloodborne pathogens and radiation.
