April at Ohio State is often marked with the flurry of preparation for final exams and a sense of celebratory reflection as we look back at another academic year gone by, and the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) is no exception. On April 10th, 2019, FABE held its annual Student Scholarship and Awards Banquet. The day was spent at a showcase for the FABE and Agricultural Systems Management (ASM) capstone projects, while the evening was reserved for scholarship and award recipients.

It is easy to get intimidated by the course load when you first step into an Ohio State class. After a while though, students eventually get accustomed to the operation. Lyne’a Diller, a third year Agriculture Systems Management (ASM) major, can say she has gotten the handle on time management.

For most, life can take them slightly off course from their intended paths. But for some, like Agricultural Systems Management (ASM) student Owen Si, that may mean moving to the other side of the world for college.
Owen was born and raised in Qingdao, a big city in the Chinese province of Shandong. Back in high school, he never imagined that he would be in America starting his graduate in agriculture. In fact, English was his least favorite subject.

The Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) rose to 9th in the nation in agricultural and biological engineering graduate programs according to U.S. News and World Report. FABE rose from 11th place in rankings from the previous year. The undergraduate program was recently ranked 7th in the nation, also rising from 11th last year.

The CFAES Distinguished Senior Award honors academic, disciplinary and professional excellence in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES). It is the most prestigious undergraduate award in CFAES, recognizing our top graduating seniors each year from each of the academic units on the Columbus campus. The selected students’ accomplishments and activities have benefited their communities, their academic unit, the college, the university, and/or their future profession.

Everyone likes their food a different way. Some people enjoy the comfort of simple, homemade foods that they know the exact taste of while others seek the thrill of creating and trying new and exotic foods. Holly Huellemeier, current FABE graduate student, falls into the second category.
From Georgetown, Kentucky, Holly has always loved cooking. When she’s in the kitchen, she’s constantly exploring her options and finding out new recipes and ingredients from outside the box.

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has announced the 2019 New Faces of ASABE Honorees, which include two Ohio State seniors: Jenna Lee and Matthew Klopfenstein. New Faces of ASABE are announced annually just ahead of National Engineers Week. Through the stories of these individuals, New Faces of ASABE aims to inspire their peers, the public, and future engineers who may follow in their footsteps

Growing up in Newberg, Oregon, Dylan wouldn’t be surprised if the saying, “there are more trees than people in the state” rang true.
Fortunately for Dylan, he has always had an innate love for the outdoors. To this day, every time he visits home, he goes on some type of adventure in the open air, whether it be camping, hiking, or just going out to the coast.

WOOSTER, Ohio—An Ohio State University researcher and her team have created the first medical glove that can block radiation while meeting federal guidelines and not triggering allergic reactions.
This glove also will eliminate the need for medical professionals working with radiation to double-glove to follow the federal requirement that they protect against both bloodborne pathogens and radiation.
