    AWARES Program Empowers Women to Stay in Engineering Careers

    “The data first got my attention,” said Gonul Kaletunc, Professor of Food Engineering at The Ohio State University’s Department of Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering. “There’s very large drop rates in women in engineering workplaces. 40 percent of women quit their jobs before age 30. It’s a mind-boggling statistic.”

    Kaletunc has worked over the past two years to address the issue of women’s retention in engineering careers through the Aspiration for Women’s Advancement and Retention in Engineering and Sciences (AWARES) program.

  2. Two FABE Faculty Receive College of Engineering Awards

    Two Faculty from the Department of Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering (FABE) were recognized at the 20th Annual College of Engineering Distinguished Faculty Awards Banquet on April 27.

    Professor Karen Mancl received the Faculty Mentoring Award for demonstrating excellence in mentoring early-career College of Engineering faculty. The Faculty Mentoring Award was established in 2013. Dr. Mancl was recognized for her mentoring services focused on effective teaching and research programs.

    OSU CSM Students Successful at UC NewB Competition!

    Ohio State Construction Systems Management student participate in a University of Cincinnati “NewB competition each year. There were 3 catagories this year: Commerical; Heavy/Civil and Residential contruction. Our 4 teams placed 1st and 3rd in Commercial and 2nd in both Heavy/Civil and Residential, congratulations to those hard working students.

  4. FABE Graduate Student’s Research funded by The Office of Energy and Environment.

    Ph.D. Fulbright Scholar, Beenish Saba, was funded by The Office of Energy and Environment to research the use microorganisms in wastewater to power treatment plants. Geobacter in wastewater breathe in minerals and produce electrons, which are transferred to electrodes on microbial fuel cells (MFC). The fuel cells then power wastewater treatment processes.     On January 12, 2017, Mike Rowan, FABE lecturer, received the Distinguished Service Award from the Ohio Onsite Wastewater Association (OOWA). 

    He was recognized for his leadership in OOWA and for his work in developing onsite spray irrigation systems for Ohio.

     

  6. Lawnmower clinic

    We will service your walk-behind push lawn mowers in the Agricultural Engineering Courtyard located at 590 Woody Hayes Drive.  Service includes: blade sharpening, oil change, spark plug replacement, and power-washing all for the low price of $40. Drop-off dates are March 1st-3rdfrom 7:15-9:15AM and 4:00-6:00 PM each day.  Please email Elliot (callow.12@osu.edu) with questions.

  8. ABC Construction Management Student Competition

    Our OSU CSM student participated in an annual ABC Construction Management Student Competition held in Dallas in Nov. 2016.  This is the 9th year our students have represented OSU!  The competition is to judge their skills in estimating, scheduling, safety and quality control.

  10. USDA National Teaching Award for Food and Agricultural Sciences

    Congratulations to faculty member Ann Christy who is the recipient of the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Excellence in College and University Teaching Award for Food and Agricultural Sciences. The award, which celebrates university faculty for their use of innovative teaching methods and service to students, was presented at the 129th APLU Annual Meeting now underway in Austin, Texas.
