Ecological engineering majors Monica Backs, Lucas Froelich, Jake Radeff, Patrick Sanders, and biological engineering major Gio Papio dedicate capstone design project to restore the Carmack Woods, a wetland on The Ohio State University's Columbus Campus. Each autumn, seniors in the Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering (FABE) program begin a year-long capstone design experience. Students form teams to address real-world problems sponsored university, local, and national clients and organizations.

Each year, students from Ohio State’s Construction Systems Management (CSM) program participate in the University of Cincinnati New Builders (NewB) Competition. The competition features three divisions: commercial, residential, and heavy/civil construction. This year, Ohio State sent 18 CSM students as a part of three teams, each participating in one of the divisions. After months of dedicating time and energy, the efforts of all the teams paid off as each team placed in the top 3 or their division.

As Ohio State administrators and faculty reported to the trustees on recent research successes and future plans, the Precision Agriculture Program was featured as one of two programs which exemplified the goals of innovation and collaboration during the Academic Affairs/Student Life Committee meeting.

Registration is open for The Ohio State University’s 2018 Greenhouse Management Workshop, which this year will focus on hydroponics, a booming Ohio industry that grows crops in water without soil.
The event is Feb. 8-9 at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC), part of the Wooster campus of Ohio State’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES), about 60 miles south of Cleveland.

LONDON, Ohio — With so much focus on fertilizer these days, where and when it’s applied, a conference will be held in January to inform people about the many approaches and technological advances that can make it easier.
The 2nd annual Precision University Jan. 11 in London, Ohio, will feature presentations about technology that can help farmers apply fertilizer in a way that prevents it from running off the land and ending up in Lake Erie or other waterways.

CFAES’s research arm, OARDC, honored the service of nearly 100 faculty and staff members at its annual Employee Appreciation Night on Oct. 5 in Wooster. The honorees included 8 FABE faculty and staff. Leading the honorees was Harold Keener, professor and associate chair, Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE), who this year celebrated a half century of service to the center.
