    Jaden Tatum is researching grain drying and storage for developing countries for her dissertation, while also investigating shallow geothermal heating and cooling systems in Ohio greenhouses. In both cases, she won several grants from the university and beyond to help with research and putting these exciting topics in action.

    Last month, at the 2023 American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) Annual International Meeting in Omaha, Nebraska, the 2022 International Drainage Hall of Fame inductees Dan Jaynes and Charlie Schafer were honored by their peers.

  3. Conservation drainage – a showcase at the Ohio State Lima regenerative agriculture farm

    The second Drainage Installation Field Day at The Ohio State University at Lima brought out close to 100 farmers, engineers, contractors and researchers from around northwest Ohio and across the state to learn more about the installation of sub-surface drainage tile systems and their modern uses. Volunteer contractors worked throughout the day to install 27,000 feet of perforated drain pipes across 25 acres at the Ohio State Lima Regenerative Agriculture Farm.

    The Ohio State University Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) Ph.D. candidate Daisy D'Angelo recently received a $4,000 university scholarship from the Compost Research and Education Foundation (CREF) for her work to improve compost marketability.

    The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES), Nationwide, and the Ohio Farm Bureau joined forces to establish the AgTech Innovation Hub, a groundbreaking multimillion-dollar research collaboration. The partnership, unveiled during the 2023 Farm Science Review, aims to drive the development of innovative solutions that enhance the agricultural ecosystem while fostering a deeper understanding of and effective management and mitigation strategies for climate risks.

    Faculty Awarded Grant to Integrate Sustainability into Engineering Education

    The Ohio State University Department of Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering (FABE) incoming tenure-track faculty Cherish Vance and Senior Lecturer Patrick Sours (FABE/CEGE) have been awarded a grant from the American Society for Engineering Education's (ASEE) Engineering for One Planet (EOP) Mini-Grants Program. The grant aims to support educators in integrating sustainability into their programs. Out of over 100 applications received, their proposal was among the 14 selected, with each winning application receiving $8,000 for their academic programs.

    Grant feeds effort to convert food waste into valuable products

    As populations grow in industrialized countries, so does the amount of wasted food. Approximately one-third of all food produced for consumption ends up in landfills, amounting to around $1 trillion USD in economic value and causing significant environmental harm.

    Mancl Awarded ASABE Grade of Fellow

    Karen Mancl, a professor in The Ohio State University Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, was awarded a Grade of Fellow by The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) in the class of 2023.
