    Fulbright Scholar Visits FABE

    The Council of the Polish-American Fulbright Commission and J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board awarded Prof. Mirosława El Fray from the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Engineering, Department of Polymer and Biomaterials Science, the Fulbright STEM Impact Award 2019. In total, 22 applicants took part in the competition, including the substantive assessment of the applications prepared by three independent experts and an interview with candidates whose applications received the highest marks. Five total scholarship awards were granted.

    Morgan’s love of the outdoors started as a child, where she would spend hours playing outside at her home in Barberton, Ohio, near Akron. As Morgan grew, so did her passion for the outdoors. Today, Morgan is interested in health, eating clean, and exercising, especially trail hiking and hot yoga.

    Ohio State Report Evaluates Options for Reducing Lake Erie’s Harmful Algal Blooms

    Several research teams, led by The Ohio State University, have concluded a three-year study evaluating the ability of agricultural management practices to reduce phosphorus causing harmful algal blooms in Lake Erie. In 2012, the United States and Canada set the goal of reducing phosphorus entering the lake by 40%. Now, researchers have a better understanding of what management practices need to be implemented, and what research still needs to be done to meet these goals by 2025.

    In U.S. News & World Report’s 2020 Best Colleges rankings, more departments within The Ohio State University College of Engineering placed among the nation’s top programs than ever before. Overall, Ohio State’s undergraduate engineering program again ranks first in Ohio, and 16th among public universities nationwide. Among both public and private institutions, Ohio State’s College of Engineering ranks 29th, up one spot from last year.

His academic background includes degrees in physics (B.S., Virginia Tech), computer science (M.C.S., University of Virginia) and engineering (Ph.D., Duke University).

    Carin A. Helfer is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering at The Ohio State University. She received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. After college, she was a research tire compounder at the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio. She left Goodyear to pursue a Ph.D.
