Faculty, staff, and students honored at the 2024 CFAES Research Forum

Every spring, The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) translates cutting-edge research for stakeholders across the state in its Research Forum. By engaging with stakeholders, The Ohio State University provides research, technology, and knowledge to support safe, sustainable, and viable agricultural practices across Ohio and the world. Last week, the research done by students and research scientists was put on display at the CFAES Research Forum.

Capstone students contribute to space research

Students majoring in Agricultural Systems Management and Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering participate in a senior capstone project during their final undergraduate year as part of the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) curriculum at The Ohio State University. Through the two semester-long capstone project, students can apply their knowledge to real-world situations and partner with international companies to further expand their technical skills. 

Graduate student funded to harness remote sensing and AI technology for precision agriculture

Last week, The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) Research & Graduate Education Internal Grants Program announced which projects would receive funding for the upcoming year. 

Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) Ph. D. candidate Sushma Katari's project, titled “Combining satellite and unmanned aerial system data for identifying the crop growth stages using image processing and machine learning techniques” was one of the selected projects.

Meet Zachary Johnson: 2024 CFAES Distinguished Senior

In our conversation with Zachary Johnson, one of the recipients of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences Distinguished Senior Award from The Ohio State University's Department of Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering, he shared insights into his discovery of FABE, his time in the department, and his future endeavors post-graduation. Postdoctoral research demonstrates power of machine learning to advance ecosystem prediction

Srishti Gaur, a postdoctoral scholar in The Ohio State University's Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, recently published an article in Agricultural and Forest Meteorology, a peer-reviewed journal covering research on the relationships between meteorology and the fields of plant, animal, and soil sciences, ecology, and biogeochemistry.
 
Gaur's article, titled "Explainable machine learning for predicting stomatal conductance across multiple plant functional types" will appear in the May 2024 edition of the journal.
 

Meet Ashley Bergman: 2024 CFAES Distinguished Senior

Earlier this semester, The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) announced its 23 recipients of the Distinguished Senior Award. The Distinguished Senior Award honors top graduating seniors on the Ohio State Columbus campus who exemplify the CFAES mission in areas such as academics and scholarship, research and innovation, service and involvement, and influence and leadership.

Three FABE researchers funded in statewide harmful algal bloom research initiative

Four researchers in The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) have been awarded funding from the statewide Harmful Algal Bloom Research Initiative (HABRI), which seeks solutions for harmful algal blooms in Ohio. Three of those researchers, Vinayak Shedekar, Asmita Murumkar, and Ryan Winston, are in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE).
