With funding from US DOE, we are developing an integrated algae production system from biofuel production and CO2 sequencing.
High production cost is a major barrier for algae oil.
We will evaluate algae production using nutrients sources which include effluent from an anaerobic digester and wastewater on a pilot scale. Biomass residue, after lipids extraction, will be used for bioenergy production in a Quasar digester to increase the value of byproducts.
Four algae ponds have been constructed on Cedar Lane farm in Wooster and we are starting to grow algae now. This project is expecting to generate 12 full time jobs in Ohio.
