NAHB 2019 Student Competition (National Association of Home Builders)

The mission of the NAHB four-year student competition is to expose students to an in-depth residential construction project from concept to closing. Using real projects, students compete with other schools as they display their problem-solving abilities and learn more about homebuilding. Areas of the project consist of Market Analysis, Product Design and Selection, Construction Management, Project Management, Financial and Risk Analysis and Sustainability.

The competition presentation is held during the NAHB Annual International Builders Show. The team will be granted access to the Show Expo Floor while they are not participating in the presentation so they can gain exposure to more areas of the industry.

Time Commitment: Approximately 10 hours per week from beginning of October until the middle of December for the report and approximately 5-10 hours per week from January to the competition date in Las Vegas.  Travel dates are tentatively February 17-21, 2019. 

Who: All undergraduate CSM students are welcome to apply

Where: The competition presentation takes place in Las Vegas, NV

When: The Projects are due electronically on December 12, 2018; Students will travel to Las Vegas to present their work February 18-20, 2019

ASC Competition (Associated Schools of Construction)

The objective of this competition is to expose student competitors to the everyday occurrence of construction services in today’s construction environment.

The proposal will be received, evaluated, and turned in within 15 hours. The proposal will include: team selection, scheduling, logistics planning, estimating, risk analysis, constructability review, resource allocation, and safety. No bid documents will be provided until the day of competition.

When: First meeting mid-September, competition on Oct 17-20, 2018

2018 ABC Construction Management Competition

ALL CSM students are invited to participate in the 2018 ABC Construction Management Competition.

The ABC CMC is co-locating with ABC Convention 2018, ABC’s biggest celebration of merit shop construction, featuring inspiring speakers, innovative educational sessions, abundant networking opportunities and industry experience with ABC’s finest people, projects and programs. In addition, ABC Convention 2018 will give students face time with top-notch contractors and ABC’s staff nationwide so that they can network with potential employers and mentors.

The CMC is designed to challenge construction knowledge, time management, organizational and presentation skills and recognize the most accomplished ABC student chapters in the country. Competing will test the teams project management, estimating, safety, quality-control and presentation skills and bring out the best in every team.

2018 New Builders Competition (University of Cincinatti Construction Student Association)

Freshman and Sophomore (pre-CSM 3450) CSM students are invited to participate in the 2018 New Builders Competition Team. 

If you are unfamiliar with the NewB competition...

  • Up to 5 students on a team.
  • Each team is allowed a faculty adviser and upperclassman coach.
  • Teams will receive a Request for Proposal (RFP) on the 19th of January, 2018.
  • A Pre-Qualification Packet including fictional resumes for each team member, a company bio and organizational structure will be due by email on the 2nd of Feburary, 2018 . Teams will also have the opportunity to submit RFIs.
  • Teams will present their proposal to judges from sponsoring companies on 23rd of Febuary 2018
