FABE is looking for a student research assistant. This position will assist with tasks critical to carrying out research and education for the Overholt Drainage Education and Research Program, the International Drainage Hall of Fame, and the International Program on Water Management in Agriculture. Both programs cater to a wide audience across the state, nation, and the world, in terms of research, extension and education. A majority of the work depends on support provided by students and staff associated with these programs. Additionally, the grants included on the funding sources require support to accomplish the tasks listed on the project deliverables.

The USDA-ARS Soil Drainage Research Unit, located in the Agricultural Engineering Bldg., is looking for a 2nd or 3rd-year undergraduate OSU-FABE or OSU-SENR student to fill a student research assistant position in our Water Chemistry Lab beginning in May 2024.  

The student would provide general assistance to the lab; receive and catalog field samples; perform sample filtration, basic wet chemistry techniques, turbidity and pH analyses; assist with lab dishwashing and weekly data entry; and occasionally assist with field sample collection.  The student will contribute 12-15 hours/week during school semesters and between 35-38 hours/week during the summer.

Student Summer Intern - eFields Program

OSU CFAES is seeking to hire 2 summer interns to work with the eFields On-Farm Research Program for May-August 2022. Students will gain real-world experience in scouting, sampling and evaluating agronomic crops in Ohio, as well as designing and developing educational Extension and outreach tools to communicate scientific research results to the broader community. Applicants should have experience or interest in one of the following areas: crop science, agronomy, agricultural communications, ag business and policy, or natural resources.

Primary Responsibilities

Facilitate the generation of the annual eFields report - Assist with data collection and entry for local eFields trials, participate in county level crop scouting, gain experience with data analysis by assisting with data aggregation and summary

Assist with county level programming including Extension meetings, webinars, field days (regional and local)

Encouraged to participate in farm visits, field days, and other activities

This position is based in Columbus or Crawford Co.

Interested students should be 1) currently enrolled in an undergraduate program, 2) just finishing

their undergraduate degree this semester, or 3) planning on starting graduate school this fall.

Applicants must be able to work independently. They should be professionally motivated to help farmers make research-based management decisions. Students must have a valid driver’s license, a reliable personal vehicle and must be willing to travel extensively over the duration of the summer. All mileage will be reimbursed at the standard University rate ($0.67/mile).

summer 2024 student Research assistant position

Environmental Field and Lab Work at Ohio State Wooster Campus

The Ohio State University Agroecosystems Management Program is seeking 2 student research assistants to collect environmental and agricultural data on a Wooster campus Land Laboratory. This work will support development of a long-term systems research facility designed to host unique opportunities for research, education, and outreach. Position may be combined with additional tasks or projects depending on a students’ interests.  

The selected candidate will need to work independently with minimal supervision in various weather conditions and with a diverse set of materials, sampling sites, and provided protocols. Sampling will assess soil health, hydrology, existing ecosystem services or natural features, and operational assets such as fencing and water supplies.

Target Start Date: May 2024 – August 2024 with possible part-time extension into the school year this fall.  

Work Week: up to 38 hours/week while not enrolled in classes (28 hrs/wk while enrolled)

Pay: $12.50 - $14.17/hour, depending on past experience. 

Applicant must be a high school graduate enrolled in an Ohio college or university and must have reliable transportation. Preference given to students with prior experience in research or similar detail-oriented work, and prior coursework in agricultural and/or environmental systems.

Midwest air paid internship program

Position Description: Midwest Air is a drone application and sales company. We do drone application of fungicides on corn and soybeans throughout the summer. We are looking for Visual Observers to help our pilots by mixing pesticides, filling tanks, and changing batteries.
