Small unmanned aerial systems position

We have an opportunity for a student research position flying Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS, aka drones) for AI applications in agriculture at on-farm research locations in Western and Northwest Ohio.  The student will be required to complete Unmanned Safety Institute (USI) training and subsequently pass the 14 CFR Part 107 FAA exam.  The USI training includes practice Part 107 exams that can be taken in preparation for the actual exam.  Since the fields will be located in West Central and Northwest Ohio, we would prefer that the applicant have a residence in that general part of Ohio during the summer to cut down on travel time. Since the project requires data to be collected beginning middle of April, the student is required to pass the Part 107 FAA exam by the first week of April.

The student will be flying a Wingtra Vertical and Take off Landing sUAS and will be trained on all aspects of using it including flight preparation, installing different camera payloads, setting up a flight plan, monitoring weather conditions, post-processing of images, and battery charging.  This is a great opportunity to get hands-on experience with sUAS and AI technologies in agriculture. Travel and exam registration expenses will be covered.

Interested applicants should send their CV to Luke Waltz at waltz.12@buckeyemail.osu.edu
