Research is an integral part of Ohio State, our department, and our undergraduate experience. Our department features a vast amount of exciting research projects like green energy construction; developing a gaseous sanitizer that kills pathogens like e. coli on leafy green vegetables; developing a bio-polylol, a renewable source of polyurethane foam; and evaluating the conversion of cellulosic biomass from sugarcane into ethanol.

As student research assistants, undergraduate students have the opportunity to cooperatively work on projects with faculty members who focus on several different research areas as early as their freshman year. Undergraduates can also do their own independent research projects. As an undergraduate researcher, you will gain valuable professional experience writing proposals for grants, meeting deadlines, having your work professionally critiqued, and working within a budget. These real-life scenarios and constraints will allow you to experience what a work-day is like for a researcher.

Students can start their research conversation by contacting their Faculty Advisor.
